Lower Arms And Tie Rods

Best Answer Cooperman , 25 October 2014 - 02:01 PM

If it is a road car just leave it standard. Minis have always been great to drive in a 'retro' sort of way.

Adjustable tie bars are really for competition cars where a few 1/10ths of seconds matter, or to cure adverse tolerances in the sub-frames.

Hi All,

Have all the front suspension in bits and have refurbed everything and am almost ready to put everything back together.

My problem is not quite sure what to do with the lower arms and tie rods do I go for the standard items or do I fit adjustable, on one hand if I keep it standard it should with all things being equal handle as a Mini should on the other hand using adjustable could make things even better. I like that but have issues with my own ability to set it up correctly and also with anyone else doing the same I have seen how some of these so called Specialists work and to be honest I have no real confidence in any of them particularly tyre fitters were steering geometry is all part of the service.

Bottom line is if it cannot be set up properly what’s the point in having it, it is not a cost issue in fact it is cheaper to buy the Minispares adjustable kit as I was planning on replacing the lower arms and tie rods anyway.

Before I make my mind up can anyone recommend someone in the Birmingham, Staffs or Worcestershire area who can do a good job?

Cheers

Stuart

Adjustable tier rods are a pain to adjust to correctly. They change the whole Geometry of the car. Keith Calver has written an article about these in one of last MiniMags.
