I would also recommend having a chat to some local machine shops. Many will have old-school chaps who REALLY know their stuff and would probably love to do a Mini engine.

+1 on this. I took my 1275 to the local machine shop. They said that they didn't do build ups but would make an exception for a mini! They built a cracking engine at a very, very fair price.
