The MJ hard limiter doesn't just cut off the coil, if you did that you'd get a spark every time it operated. As that could happen anywhere in cycle it could be at piston destroying degrees of advance. Autosport's answer is to switch in more resistance with a mosfet, about 20ohms @ 10watts.

I like Nick's tactics:
The best solution would be to hack the MJ code to run the soft limiter off load or auxiliary inputs, wonder if Autosport have considered this? As a work around, you could set up a row of retarded advance bins on your map that are triggered when you push those inputs out of their usual range with a resistor that connects to one of them when you operate your launch switch.
