The A+ was developed for the ADO88 to be introduced in 1978, however this was revamped into the LC8 (Mini Metro) and the subsequent delay to October 1980 meant that the A+ was available! and therefore used in Mini and Allegro. Appearing in 1979 reg models.

The Metro was actually very successful for many years and arguably saved BL at the time with increased sales.......when the Metro was launched in 1980 Mini sales dramatically dropped as can be seen in the table below, even though it eventually outlived the Metro, which was discontinued in 1997 as the Rover 100 by BMW when the now old design performed badly in modern crash tests which attracted bad publicity and falling sales.

The Metro also saved the long term future of the Mini by keeping the A-Series engine and transverse gearbox at economic volume production levels for several more years into the future.

I've got a set of 5 12" totally refurbished coming with my GT on Saturday. They look great on yours.

up to late 80s i agree but  then the k series engine was introduced and the metro drematically changed stopping the use of the a+ engine all together and thats when it became rover metro/100 nothing austin was left and then in 1997 it was scrapped but actually turnt in to the mg tf in 1996 which runs the rover metro front subframes both front and back with the engine (k series again) sat in the rear.

and it would be the dreaded k series engine which was the only petrol engine rover used between early 90's and till the collapse that i would say actually was a major factory in killing of the brand

They do seem to suit the GT more than the round nose mini. I had mine fitted without arches as they have a shallow offset similar to the challenge wheels.

Sorry for going a little OT here, but thanks mab01uk for posting that up. I have seen similar tables over the years but none with that preceeding script, it does mean a lot more now.
