Idle Too High On Spi

Best Answer dpryszku , 30 December 2014 - 08:24 PM

Hello

Another capilary tube has also be changed and a new 02 sensor has been set as the old one was unremovable from the genuine inlet.

All is fixed!

Nex step for the 100.000 km, rally road head !

Happy good year.

Dear all,

I have just get back my mini after 4 months on body and paint repair. I was so happy from the result.

Appointment next week to work on the engine, basically an update on full exhaust line, a wooden dashboard with 3 additional gauges!

All was running ok on road back home, but engine idle start to be very high, hesitation on accelerating and engine bucks.

Capillary lines were all changes last year with fuel trap, spark plug and airbox temp sensor.

I have checked the color of the spark plug and all are a bit poor for me (end was white/grey)

All capillary end and connection were checked.

inlet manifold coolant temperature an oxygen sensor has never been changed; This is a 95 first hand car with 45k miles...

Thing is that car was running perfectly before paint and body work. I had a lot of rain on the road ...

So engine behave as never going out from cold start, but i should have dark (too rich) spark plug... but this is not the case, and this is where i get lost.

Do you have any ideas that cause this behavior?

Thanks for your help.

Check all your connections and make sure nothing disturbed from work done.
Remember wiring in fuel injection models is the same junk as the earlier models, just more of it
Increased idle speed could be a number of things double check vacuum pipes at the elbows (not split or pushed on too far), look for air leaks. Also check its not something simple like a sticking accelerator cable (had that before after a new carpet).
Any one near you got a code reader? Could save a lot of time.

Or trail through some posts on here especially the pinned ones....

Did the body shop do any work in the boot or engine bay....

Was the engine removed?

Was the battery removed?

Thanks FlyingScot

Thanks Chrome

For you answer.

I ll check al the pipes again and checking the carpet is a very good idea :-)

The mini goes to the mecahnical next tuesday, who has experience and a code reader...

Battery was removed for at least 3 months ! and engine was not removed from the bay, but a drand new front panel a side wings have been set up.

Strange thing is that all was ok for at least  half an hour.

I ll check all of that

Thanks very much for your help.

First thing I would recommend is to change from these fragile elbow-type vacuum hoses to 3 mm ID silicone tubes from Samco Motorsport or autosilicone hoses (which also have the right colors). I tried several times in the past to control the elbows if they are vacuum tight. In vain. So I change the whole stuff and now since 2 years no problems anylonger.

Secondly the inlet manifold coolant temperature sensor seems to report to the ECU that the engine is still cold and therefore the idle stays in the higher range. Sometimes the cables of the sensor are getting stiff und show corrosion. Anyway It does not cost a fortune to replace the sensor.

Thirdly I would check the distributor for wear and/or corrosive layers.

Last but not least a measurement control of the oxy sensor should be done also.

Thank alpenflitzer for this message.

Coolant temperature senseor has never been changed, but will be next week.

I ll let you know.

Also thank you for the link to Samco hoses, i ll certainly move to that has i am not very confident with replacement tubes i have set previously.

Have a good day.

Hello to everybody.

Here what was the issue. Inlet manifold was untight ! Air and exhaust leaks was doing this mess.

A new LCB exhaust manifold has been setup with a new O2 and coolant temperature sensor.

I get it back to me by the end of the year.

I ll let you know.

Have a terrific final week !
