Modern roads and normal usage is this something worth worrying about or not.
I've got an innocenti guard and I'm not sure wether to fit it or sell it??

I like the look and had one kicking about and was tempted to fit it. Decided against it after reading about potential problems with cooling, and the need for an oil cooler to compensate. Also not really neccessary unless you're car is ridiculously low and the speedbumps particularly vicious where you live.

I find it's my exhaust that hits before anything else, don't think I've hit my sump on anything

Had one on mine when I bought it, took it off. The car is only used on normal roads and speed bumps don't cause a problem as its standard ride hide, also found changing the oil a pain as it made the sump plug more difficult to get at and oil ran down and all over the guard. Unless I was doing something wrong?

I have one in my room from my dads old MK1 mini that has lived on, recently did a little resto on it, just waiting for a sunny day to install it.

You do need an oil cooler with a normal sump guard. However, I believe the Innocenti-type is more of an open pattern so cooling may not be an issue.

Unless driving fast on seriously rough roads a sump guard should not be necessary on a road Mini.

Remember, you lose about 1" of ground clearance if you fit a guard.

I have one fitted to my std.998 - it came with the car.

My mini runs well & running temperature is definitely not a problem. Without a specific OIL temp. gauge, should I remove, or keep 'as is' .?

I wouldn't' buy one, but as it came with it, just left it in situ.

Agree, have to remove for servicing, but it's only 5 bolts!

Never had a problem temperature wise with one fitted on a 998. Didnt have an oil cooler.

Liked the way you could easily jack it up directly on the sump guard, spreading the load to the subframe.

Our Mokes all came factory fitted with sump guards. For normal day to day driving, i don't bother with them, however, there is no way on earth I'd go away without it!
