Hi all,

Started stripping a 1275 today, took off the head and I noticed a reasonable amount of black debris on the pistons. It has built up inside the chambers then debris has fallen onto the pistons.

Is this just from poor running/tuning? Or is it burnt oil deposits? Or just a ridiculous amount of carbon build up?

(Baring in mind, the engine was only run for about 150 miles after being put together)

Idiotically I didn't take a picture of the camber before I cleaned them up

                                                       :withstupid:

But you can see where it was building up...

Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers

looks like a bit of carbon deposit from around the gasket and chamber. I wouldn't worry about it. Clean it all out and fit a new HG after re-lapping in the valves.

When you look at the quality of surface in the chamber it makes you realise how poor the finish is on the standard head, especially the steps around the valve seats. That is why it is so easy to get a performance increase just by cleaning up the chambers to remove those steps and the rough surface finish.

Thanks for the reply Cooperman. I'll clean it all up and lap the valves then.
