rather than mount the elec fan directly the outside of the rad, i could mount it further away into the wheel arch to help draw away hot air.
nevertheless, i have removed the elece fan to try the mech fan only (have checked that it is mounted correclty also.

My car is a clubman GT from AUS. It came with an extra radiator mounted in the front.
I took it out now the temperature rises when stationary never tried driving it yet without that extra radiator. Before I took it out it was fine. My 1098 mini never reaches half. Any suggestions? A stuck thermostat?

What fan?
Yes I would check the thermostat.

On a fairly standard 1275 with a cooling system in good condition you do not need an electric fan at all.
But a normal mechanical fan is a MUST for the transverse engine in a Mini because the fan needs to run continuously and provide the correct throughput volume of air. An electric fan on its own will gain nothing and will not be good enough to cool the engine,
Simply fit the 11-blade fan (the correct way around), remove the electric fan and so long as the rest of the cooling system is in good order all will be well.

Hi On the road,
I have a fairly seriously souped up 1293 Mini I drove in Indonesia (hot weather!) for a year. Cooling system is stock standard (except alloy radiator) and the temperature gauge never got to halfway even in gridlocked traffic (normal in Bali!).
So, in my experience, a properly set up standard cooling system is all you need. Sort that out and toss the other stuff.
Cheers
Michael
