Replacing Iacv

Best Answer Calderwood , 28 January 2015 - 02:03 AM

Just thought I'd update this for archive purposes. So I eventually found an MG garage in Old Windsor (MG Roberts) who had the diagnostic equipment. We couldn't actually get the machine to read properly, but as we were examining the IACV, and turning the ignition on and off, there was a spark off the wiring loom, and it was clear that the wiring had been chafing on a near by bit of a metal, and was now shorting on the clutch master cylinder.

Problem solved now, so basically I should have thoroughly checked the wire to the IACV from the ECU, as it was a very simple fix. Obviously I never saw the spark before hand, as it it only did it when the ignition was turning on or off.

Hi there, recently my mini has been pretty much refusing to idle once up to temperature. I've cleaned the IACV, and although I have also heard the manifold gasket could be to blame - and ill check this- im pretty sure im going to have to replace the valve.

As everyone knows, they are quite difficult to find, and the only ones I can find seem to be ones from Rover 200s and the like, like this

The left half looks the same, but the right bit is completely different, although it does look like this might screw off and reveal the valve as per the mpi. Can anyone confirm this? And will it screw on as normal?

Thanks

I had the same sort of problem. I replaced the IACV and it didn't help.
I took it to an MG specialist, they reset it's postion and the TPM and problem solved...

but at the same time I've had the same problem and replaced the iacv and it solved the problem, likewise for a fella I sold one to as well.

point is a high idle can be down to a few things

I should say mine hasn't had a high idle. which a lot of people complain of with IACV problems. I think ill take it to an MG Rover specialist and ask them to use their diagnostics on it. If that doesn't work ill replace it.Thanks Rob Mac and Ruckus

Had wiring chafe through on the exact same spot on my SPi, though in my case that shorted out all sorts and burned out tracks in the relay pack. Bad bit of loom routing around the old clutch master cylinder!
