The Imp was designed by Mike Parkes whose father had been Issigonis' boss at Alvis before he joined BMC. Parkes was a friend and to a certain extent a protege of Issigonis. When Parkes first showed him the Imp, Issigonis said it was a brilliant design but the wrong way round.
