Get a MINI and you will love it, great fun to drive, but more space inside than a classic Mini and of course a useful hatch with reasonable load area with the rear seats folded. I have a 2002 One and do not find it lacking in power (90bhp).......as said it can easily be upgraded to Cooper spec (115bhp) or 120bhp with a 'Bluefin' software upgrade.

Is there no way you could keep the classic too? I paid £2000 down from £2250 and think it was already a good deal for her asking price! You'll definitely regret getting rid of the classic, but a MINI One/Cooper is a great choice if you're really considering swapping the classic. Be a shame if you can't get MINI and keep mini, but upto you. They are still a bit small in the back and boot space mind. Good choice of car though to replace a classic :D sad I know, but when I was looking, I wanted one as early as I could get so it's as close to the classic :P hehe.

Good luck with your search though.

Edit: spelling

I owned an R56 One ( 2010 ) from new and ran it unil i traded it in against an R56 Cooper D.

While it was no tarmac terrorist, it certainly was not gutless  or boring to drive. You have to wind them up if you want to have fun, but for everyday transport they keep up with traffic no problem. I did 90k trouble free miles, the only issue i had with the car was the radio which was replaced under warranty.

The earlier MINI ( R50 ) is slightly more tunable in One guise and as said, a Bluefin will do wonders, taking the power to more than a standard Cooper. The Tritec engine in these is a good unit although a litle harsh sounding when pushed. Alot of people say the R50 is far superior over the R56 with regards to the fun factor. I prefer the interior of the r56 and the greater interior space.

Dont listen to the haters, do your research and get what you want.

what is your budget?

the private market is flooded with MINI's, both R50 & R56

As Ben says, rear legroom is a bit pants as a family car. However, who wants kids? think of all the extra money you can spend on your cars without the, lol. Perfect for me & pefect for you and your hound ;D
