To cut a long story short I went to pull away last night from a car park, I selcted first gear and I had no drive, so I tried second still nothing. I then tried third and I couldn't get into it, but I could get into fourth and reverse. I had no weird noises or teeth grinding before this happened, but my dad noticed that under hard acceleration when you come off the throttle then engine kind of leaped or jurked about.

Thanks in advance, Shane

I'd start by checking your engine steadies mate.

If the engine has moved you may not be able to select gears

Clutch gone? Tell your dad to take it easy on the clutch.

Check fluid. Sounds like an engine out whatever you decide is the problem.

Can you physically move the engine by hand?? Could be a broken engine mount. Steadies have been mentioned and you say are are fine but the engine should not jerk / move around.

Does the speedo go up in speedo when you put it in gear and try to drive?

Does it go into gear with the engine off?

one of your pot joints has not come out of the splines ?

Or a busted drive shaft, the one that nearly always goes is the RH one, on the outboard end

While on the ground, start it, put it in gear (with the brakes on!) and have someone look at the shafts, if one is turning, that'll be it.

The other thing it could be (associated with the engine movement) is a busted teeth from the Final Drive or a spit Planet Gear, but 99 times out of 100, the spilt sun gear with also get spat out the diff cap.

If the speedo is moving, the diff will be moving.

Try it again but this time get someone to look into the engine bay and look if one of the drive shafts is spinning.

any noise ?, if not the mainshaft nut has come off and so has the pinion....

If this is the cause then speedo will still work but you won't get drive...
