A man is 40. The socially acceptable age is someone half his age, 20 + 7. So 27.

Apparently... the socially acceptable age gap is half your age + 7.

Edit: should it be half your age MINUS 7, that would make more sense.

Half 16 is 8, +7 is 15. 15 and 16 is fine in my book.   [EDIT]I mean dating age, not sexual age. Best add that bit!

You said acceptable age GAP not age! So half sixteen is 8 +7=15. So age gap of fifteen would be someone 1 or 31! Weird either way! This really has got weird!
