Took off the  right-hand wiper stalk on my column switch arrangement and re-arranged it so that it worked from a Mk3  2speed switch on the dash. That left me with the left-hand switch for....horn/dip  and indicators. These all work fine HOWEVER I stripped the plastic coating off the stalk itself as I wanted it to be polished alloy look         and               even made up a little beeper circuit that beeps when my indicators or hazards are on.......annoyingly good especially      if your indicators won't self-cancel    .    HOWEVER I find that for some reason my polished alloy indicator stalk  is .......LIVE........ even with the ignition off.       HELP          I know I should get out there in the cold and sort it by removing wires and/or fuses but has anyone got a quick solution??? before I freeze me bum off.

It's meant to be like that. The stalk itself forms one of the two conductors in the circuit for the press switch so that only one cable needs to be run up the centre of the tube and to keep the actual switch simple to make. It's live with the ignition off because the horn works with the ignition off.
