Just read this from start to finish & must say I'm really impressed Steve with the work you've into this car. It'll be a cracking car when completed, I'll be watching this one.
I don't have a Mini & always been into Fords, but I've got the bug for a Mini!

Thank you Chris! They're definitely a labour of love!

May as well put the heel board on whilst its off the car. There isn't much wriggle room when its position as the floor sits 'inside' the heel board. Just don't touch the current boot floor as you can use the rear subframe to lineup the floor/heel board combo when you get it into the car.

I have found prepping the panels takes BLOODY AGES.

I see what you mean. I suppose if the heel board is square to the floor pan, then it will be as straight as possible. My next worry is after a trial fit, they don't mate up well. I'll get pictures later to show you what i mean.

A carbide burr or small belt sander may work for those welds. But personally they are under the door therefore are they worth the effort of all that work? I would do a light skim of seamsealer once the skin is fitted

because you are replacing the boot floor, you'd have nothing to hold the heelboard in place whilst you fit and weld the floor in...

This looks like an awesome build buddy. Reminds me of the highs and lows of my build, especially when finding more rust or having something not go the way you expected. Mine is currently in the garage with the engine hanging out after rebuilding it and finding out it woukdnt turn over freely when I tried to start her up. The clutch has since been off twice and the transfer casing is now off too, wasting a full engines worth of new oil. I still wouldnt give her up tho.

Where are you based? Im currently at Northwood.

Steve, If it helps, look at my 1275GT thread.

It will show you the order i fitted the panels in.

Only difference is, i bought the floor complete with heelboard and outer sills. It made things much simpler.

Might it be worth swapping your individual panels for a complete panel?

Would love to, however I'm low on funds and this floor panel is now scratched. I've got all the parts for the floor, if I can get the measurement right I can make my own lol!

So here's the heelboard clamped to the floor. Does it look ok to you guys?

Finished the last bits of the day off. Everything that is in primer now is in colour and i've welded the old floor up to put the strength back in the shell.

Whilst i still had some lift left in the spot weld drill, i took the stabiliser bracket off to clear up the inevitable rust that was behind. I wasn't dissappointed!

The heelboad looks pretty much ok.

They fit where they touch anyway so as long as the profile follows, you can't go wrong.

Just make sure you have both floors and the heelboard in so that the subframe can be trial fitted which i am sure you had planned..

As long as you can get it to fit so that the heelboard is square, you should be fine

Can I ask what welder you have as it looks like you get pretty good results? Cheers

It's the Clarke 135TE Turbo. Love it. Don't use the disposable bottle, get hobby weld. Makes a huge difference to the quality of weld!
