hello All,

I am refurbing a Mini 30 for my daughter,
and i have a query.
Just completed fitting new rear subframe

I am now fitting new discs, and decided to fit new pistons and seals to the calipers.
the new pistons have a front edge with a slight rebate, is this normal

This rebate is intentional but i dont understand why its needed, surely its going to reduce contact pressure on the pad.

thanks for your coments

Sort of but that's what it's for. It's meant to stop brake squeal. The cut away portion goes at the top of the caliper.

I am sure the cut out is to give even pad wear and the shims are so they don't squeal.
