I had issues with the lights not coming on and then when they did, if I used the flasher everything would go off again.

One by one I pulled the bullet connectors apart and cleaned them with IPA and now it's fine.

I have connected up my headlights up but as soon as I connected the battery the lights just stayed on and when I flicked the switches off and switched off the ignition they stayed off, any help?

need a bit more info? Is this a resto and just connecting the wiring or have you done any other electrical work, or is this a later car thats still got the dim dip circuit fitted?

It's a 1996 mini sprite and all I have done is connected the lights back up using the bullet clip connectors

On the Headlights you only have 3 wires

 

Blue/red - Dip beam

Blue/white - Main beam

Black - Earth

 

If thats all you have done is reconnected the lights then you may have some sort of earth issue going on, if they all worked before and after just reconnecting the bullets you have this issue time to revisit those bullets

There are four connectors coming out of the light?

Headlights 3 and 1 sidelight, I didn't mention the sidelight wire as the OP said it was confined to the headlights
