the smooth & normal types , black

want to do rear brake back plates tie bars etc

Por15 is supposed to be very good! I have not personally used it though.

Por15 is very good, just painted my rear subframe, radius arms and back plates etc with it. Expensive though as you need the prep n ready and marine clean as well.

looks like I will have to bite the bullet -

£26.45 for less than half a liter seems a bit steep just for the paint

thanks for the advise

Sledgehammer, look into a product called rust bullet. You don't need the expensive prep products to go with it and it'll paint over rusted surfaces. I've been using it for years and it forms a rock hard surface.

Used tractol, a few light coats with a brush and it sits nice an smooth and hardens fairly well, definitely better tgan hammerite!

I use chassis black after rust treatment, if needed. The last lot I got cost about £15 for a litre from Jawel paints.

Who else has used rust bullet and what do you think of it?

How good is it compared to pos15?

If you do go for POR15 see if you can get the pack with the little tins, the stuff is good but once it gets on brush, skin etc you won't get it off. The small tins mean you can use them up on each job as it goes off quick.

Yup I've used that exact chassis black paint from that exact supplier. It's reasonable stuff, provides pretty good protection and with a fairly decent finish too. I've just repainted my rear subby with it.

The eBay stuff I think is decanted "Chassis Black" by Final Systems http://www.flpgroup.co.uk/ - good way to get it as they only sell in 5L cans.

I think im going to try Por-15 as the hammerite smooth I used is dreadful, its still soft after several days air drying.

Also looking into "Glyptal" which I have heard good things about, but expensive and needs a lot of prep.
