I've not got a reverse light at all. Its a 1976 (assume mk 2?) with the square rear lamps with no white reverse lens. I assume previous owner has fitted these, as there is a wire in the loom at the back and also a sensor on the gearbox with wire going into the car. Its passed a few MoT's in my ownership with no comment so I guess its legal? Boot mounted round lamps look great I think, esp on older looking minis.

I'd never be without bright reversing lights. I couldn't find anything really nice when I replaced the crusty specimen on mine, I just got a couple of cheapos from Vehicle Wiring Products:
