Have you sent off to the DVLA for a history check ? It costs £5 I think but will give you a proper list of all previous owners and may even include details of the registration transfer. It does take a while for them to return though.

I think it's form v888.

Yes I've done this thanks Steve. Hoping when I speak to the garage that did the mot in 2011 that might lead me to paul smith and some serious answer such as where he found it. It has to be him that MOT'd it there

There is always the chance that the garage might be where it was restored, he could be a regular customer of theirs though.

Found out the guy who used to owned tbat garage is no longer around- a man called Colin Perry- MIA by all accounts. So back to square one it seems. Spoke to DVLA and no records of any previous MOTs or tax. All I can do at the moment is assume it was off the road from C1980-2011. Doesn't make much sense though as the car runs very sweet. Has to have had some work at some point!

I have located colin perry and although he can't remember the car himself, he knows someone who may and is doing some digging for me...

Colin has led me to Paul Smith.  Turns out he has all history including original receipt and pictures of it where it was stored in a barn for over 20 years! Perseverance pays off it seems. I am now looking forward to receiving the history file! Thanks for all your help! Ben

Glad to hear you have found the previous owner. It's taken me a year nearly to get to the bottom of my Scamps history, almost there but not quite yet.

Yes very happy. It's taken me a year too (almost), at times I felt as if I was stabbing in the dark and it was completely pointless however and overwhelmed I've finally struck some luck. Wasn't easy, had a lot of people unwilling to help, with letters, emails and phone calls ignored! Let's hope this file turns up now. Paul said he definitely had it and just needed to find. What's also interesting and I forgot to mention was that Paul had bought the car for the plate which HE wanted to keep, I had always assumed that he'd sell the plate but it is his camper that the plate is on, he is also willing to sell it to me. Hopefully won't be too steep a price as would be great to get the original plate back on!

Thats even better if you can get the original plate back. I'm not interested in number plates other than they are the part of a cars history, I hope you can get things sorted out.
