I have a good old Bristol imperial ½” set that I inherited, it’s at least 50 years old and apart from the ratchet is still in great condition.

A couple of years ago I was given a Halfords Proffessional mixed 170 piece set and it’s been brilliant. Wondering how I ever did without the ⅜ drive or the deep sockets. Added a few missing bits to it now, like an 11mm ratchet spanner.

Do you mean Britool?

I used to have a set of ancient Britool sockets and spanners which were lifted from my garage along with many other tools a few years ago and probably all ended up in a pawn shop. Couldn't afford Britool here now, far too expensive.

That’s probably the least that autocorrect has gotten me in triple.

Ive thouroughly used my clarke imperial sockets and ratchets frommachine mart , and I have to say they are very good for the price and have a lifetime guarantee, my 3/8 ratchet is slightly worn but still does the job , very nicely designed and nice handled ratchet aswell.

I use the 3/8 deep imperial socket set and 1/2 shallow socket set and can do most jobs on a mini.

Nobody has mentioned King Dick.  Good value compared to other premium brands and still manufactured in England.

And easy to pick up for 50p at autojumbles- they're not very well-known I find.

Your probably right Mat; I’ll have to raid the piggy bank and get to a few autojumbles.  I would like an impact set but they cost a fortune new.

My own tools were a mix of Britool and King Dick bought new in the late 80s.  I have a strong preference for King Dick and decided to replace the Britool with King Dick.  My sons got sight of the Britool and snaffled 90% of it.   So I’ve been buying King Dick and picked up loads of Britool in mixed purchases.  I'm finding that selling the Britool on is paying for the King Dick.  Your right Mat not well known and therefore cheap as chips.  Works for me though  :)
