Many of you might not be aware but the local councils (Dudley.Walsall etc)  have teamed up with the West Midlands police and have taken out a High court injunction on the banning of car meets and cruising in the area. There is no clarification on what this includes. Therefore I have emailed them to see how it will effect clubs meeting to attend shows in the area.

I have sent this to them-

I was wondering if you can clear up an issue with this ban on car cruising in the West Midlands area.
I run a mini club in the Dudley area which as members from all over. We meet every week for a chat and to
catch up with each other. We do not race on the roads or cause general nuisance. But we meet in a group
and travel to shows which are organized. There can be up to 15 of us meeting at a central point and traveling in
convoy to these shows.
There is a show coming up in the Dudley area in May, held every year at Himley Hall. This attracts owners from all
over the country in groups.
I being the planner for the runs along with other mini clubs are a little concerned that this will affect us even though
we are not meeting to race etc.
Can you please clarify what the situation is on meeting to go to said shows in the area and how this will effect the numerous
clubs in the area ie-
Carry on mini' in
Hill top mini club
Halesowen mini
West Mids mini club
Birmingham mini owners
Black Country mini owners
Longbridge classic owners
Plus other clubs in the area and coming in to the area from around the country. We would like clarification whether we are in breach of law and how this will affect us.
Yours
David Overfield
Carry on mini' in and mini/MINI United not divided

I am now waiting for an answer back, as I don't want clubs and owners effected just for meeting and going to shows in the area.

It will only be the chavy corsa and saxo brigade I'm sure, and who can blame them.
They will just have the law in place to stop the boy racers filling a tescos car park and terrorising a local neighbourhood.

There are laws in place to stop parties of more than ten people but they don't go busting peoples weddings in tent in a field.
Just the ones playing techno all night.

Seems they think everyone drives a saxo and wheelspin in car parks. It annoys me that enthusiasts are punished for idiots. The same kind that leave tonnes of rubbish in the car parks too!!

As there is a reasonable size group of you guys and no doubt you'd be pulling up and spending money in some of these place, why not write off to the local business council(s) in those areas too, it's money they'll be missing out on.

I'm afraid there's just as much chav behaviour at Mini shows and meets now though.  Wheelspinning at every opportunity, revving the nuts out of their engine, radios on full volume, loudest exhaust contests, neons and LEDs....  it's not just Corsa and Saxo owners that pee the general public off!

The only benefit i can see to this ban would be stopping the idiots meeting at mcdonalds every night around 9 to fill up the carpark and generally behave like idiots doing pathetic wheelspins and revving their engines to the rev limiter to make the exhaust pop and bang

I don't like buying a mcdonalds and then parking up to eat it only to be looked at by these idiots like i am in their way.

As for Mini owners using a public place to meet before setting off for a show, i can't see that being a problem unless you are collectively causing a nuisance with the aforementioned revving engines, loud music etc

It would be interesting to see what they write back to you

Ben

The part you quoted makes no sense without the part you removed.

As i said, people meeting at a pre-arranged place to convoy away to an organised show who behave while they are waiting may well not be affected.

Well, it does only apply between the hours of 3:00 PM and 7:00 AM. Make it a late morning drive and be done by 3:00.

It all seems quite reasonable apart from the 'driving in convoy' part.

Driving in convoy doing what?

Driving in convoy doing what?

And doing the prohibited activities in clause 3 - in other words acting like a yob.

So meeting up in a public place to then 'convoy' to another destination but doing so sensibly is ok?

Providing you're not making a nuisance of yourselves I'd say OK. i.e don't blast your horns driving through towns, but then we are mature type people aren't we?

And providing the convoy cannot be considered an obstruction to other drivers?

That's what i thought.

The old bill will probably only be looking for convoys of baseball cap wearing tracksuit adorning youths driving 1 litre 2 door motors with tailpipes the size of buckets with every component on the car being rattled to within an inch of its life by a subwoofer the size of a washing machine drum.

I guess a convoy of Mini's would get away with it unless the above described are trading their saxo's in for Mini's?  O_O
