I heard it was all yobbos that attended though so no surprise really

Seriously though, people talk as though there's never any chav activity at Mini shows, but there is. Lots of it.
Flamer kits, neons, revving the nuts off the car on the way in, radios blaring, it's all there. I don't have an issue with that, more with the fact that people seem to think the Mini scene is full of angels that never do anything wrong. The sort of people that these laws are aimed at ARE in the Mini scene just as much as they are in other car scenes. Not everyone that owns a modified Corsa or Saxo is a chav yobbo.

Agreed Matt. There will always be a "chav" element to the car scene, unless it's the fabled boring bearded Classic owners which don't appear to exist en masse at any car show I've ever been to. When I was doing convoys back in the 90s/2000s our club always provided guidelines on how to drive in convoy, the main point being "Be Sensible". Most enthusiasts do this, but there will always be the occasional idiot who HAS to show off his 1380/998/turbo/scrayard engine's massive power, along with the "Look how loud my stereo can go!" people.
I don't think they will be too much issue with the local law enforcement and we shouldn't see any shows closed down, but we may find that a couple of planks may provide the police with an easy opportunity to dish out a couple of Section 59s and possibly some nice endorsements too.

Difference is the car..... people dont mind so much when they see a convoy of minis driving around. In fact they usually smile and wave! In my experience anyway!
And I always get family or friends coming up to me and saying 'i saw loads of minis off to...... on sunday and it was great to see so many'

Maybe there is a lot of revving of engines and showing off modifications such as neons and flame kits at mini shows because it's the only chance they get to do so...?
Because not everyone with these modifications is idiotic enough to persistently use them on public roads.
This whole injunction is unnecessary. What happened to just handing out tickets to those who cause disruption by anti social behavior on the roads?
To me it's a lazy way to fix the problem and has resulted in everyone getting punished.
Or is that just irony for a local council?

The law states no more than 2 cars to gather in a public place. If there are 2 cars and a open road they will race! I witnessed 2 ep3 type r's race the other night on the road where the new signs for this injunction have been fitted! So looks like it's working well.... It is also now illegal to organise and promote events.
It also will effect classic car meets, there was one held at a local pub during the summer months. Yes people speed off etc but it was all in good taste. They have stopped now (long before the injunction was written up) but due to the same reasons near enough. They are punishing the innocent to stop the guilty. Regardless of make of car. Car enthusiasts will want to meet and have a social!

the West Midlands has had a major problem with large groups of cars meeting up and racing. Usually in Birmingham and surrounding areas but a lot of towns around have the odd one as well. There have been a few accidents (and several deaths I believe). They aren't all £500 corsas meeting up at Crappy D's, some of the cars have had VERY serious money spent on them. The only benefit i can see to this ban would be stopping the idiots meeting at mcdonalds every night around 9 to fill up the carpark and generally behave like idiots doing pathetic wheelspins and revving their engines to the rev limiter to make the exhaust pop and bang
I don't like buying a mcdonalds and then parking up to eat it only to be looked at by these idiots like i am in their way.
As for Mini owners using a public place to meet before setting off for a show, i can't see that being a problem unless you are collectively causing a nuisance with the aforementioned revving engines, loud music etc
It would be interesting to see what they write back to you
Ben
I can see why it's been done but think it would be better done as a 'curfew', say between 10pm and 6am. It would be shame if the classic car scene around here was affected by the antics of these idiots.

I wonder does the Morris Marina owners club have a problem with chav infiltration?

I think they are the main culprits....

I'd love to see the chavs of the Austin A35 club. That would complete my life!

if I ever win the lottery I am going to buy one, spaceframe it and stick a cossie under the bonnet. Leave the paint all rough and ready and take it to track days with lots of Porsches and the like.I'd love to see the chavs of the Austin A35 club. That would complete my life!
