Ola chaps,

I have just got the keys to the Mrs new flat which is a converted 19c pub. Single unit converted into 5 units so 5 consumer units, 1 per flat.

Now I'm a qualified industrial marine sparky but domestic regs change every day and I'm out of the loop. Have a look at the photo and see the obvious issue.

The main farooooking water piper is passing through the same hole as the outlet cables for the CU! And is right next to the main tails for the meter and CU. and the CU is not screwed to the wall properly either.

Also the armoured cable is proud of the wall and just straight down. It's all a bit gash I reckon and I certainly wouldn't sign it off .... so my question is.......

Should we go back to the conversion builders and say Oi!!! We want that changed please you scallywags! Or should I tidy the water pipe and box it in a bit?? Makes the cupboard a risky area really in my eyes.

Cheers in advance

I would have the water pipe moved it wouldn't take much for the push fit connector to spring a leak.

The consumer unit also needs fixing back firmly.

The main cable coming into the cut off would benefit with some cleats to hold it firmly and prevent it ever being caught on something and potentially being ripped out.

are the cables between the main cut out and meter double insulated?

That is ******* ghetto! Surely nobody could pass that off?

Main incomer definitely needs cleating to take the weight off the connections.

No cpc in the main switch enclosure either.

Cpc on the main switch connector?? Am I being silly thinking that its a plastic housing so doesn't need one? There isn't one at home either on the meter board.

The rules for the water pipe should be 150mm i think but ill get my green book an check it out. Generally not too happy with the slap dash attitude to the whole job so far!

Guess Ill build a list and get a quote for the remedials and present it to the builders on her behalf.

Cheers guys

Its ok to take the main cpc from the cut out into the consumer unit. The main switch doesn't need one as its plastic. You can take the main bonds for gas and water from the consumer unit earth bar.

Every connection point should have a terminated cpc.

Plastic or metal enclosure would just make me write a C3 or a C2..

Thats overly picky imo, those enclosures dont even have the hole for a earth wire between the tails like older ones and even the din rail inside is plastic on some, the incoming side is tagged and not designed to be connected into either, I dont think I've ever seen one fitted by the metering engineer yet that has an earth terminal provided. The metering position itself would count as the connection point and the main terminal would count as a cpc provided imo, now the 16mm connected right into the cutout rather than an MET block giving nowhere to carry out your Ze test I'd have agreed with?

Pipe moved over and boxed/fixed to the wall plus the main incoming cable cleated and the consumer unit fixed back minimum not at your cost I'd say.

Wow that is shoddy. Definitely get the speedfit pipe moved and get them to replace with copper and proper soldered or endfeed fittings.
