Hi Guys,

I've been looking through the threads on here but can't find quite the right answer I'm looking for. Sorry if I'm being blind. I've recently bought a mini that's got a supposed kad quick shift on it but it's a nightmare to get into any gear so just want to remove it. Do I need to get any replacement parts when I remove it or is it just a bolt on extra so when I take it off I can just carry on as if it wasn't there.

Undo the two bolt and it lifts off. You will then need to fit something to work as the pins for the cup. Maybe those two bolts or some shorter ones.

Hi Nick. Thanks for the reply. I've taken the two bolts out and the whole lever comes right out. Is that correct? What now? I don't get the bit about the pins. Sorry. Thanks

Ok then maybe we need to know which gear change you have. Rod type or remote housing.

The second picture won't upload but is just of a hole where the lever has come out of.

So remove the cap.

The cap will need to mount onto something as the pins in the housing were replace by bolts to hold the KAD quick shift kit in place.

You do have the original gear stick don't you?

No I don't. that was my original question, would I need to get anything when I take it off.
Do I need to get another gear stick?

Yes. The red bit the stick and the two bolts you have removed are part of the kit.

The bolts replaced some pins that the top cover clips onto. You can see the pins in the red housing. Those are not the old ones but ones that came with the kit.

Not they also ingage with the ball on the stick.

Hiya. Thanks for that. I found one last week. Been away with work all week so fingers crossed I get it sorted this weekend. I can't wait to get shot of the cheap quick shift. :)

The problem is when you fit a standard stick back in the standard dowls that tapped into the alloy housing, the right hand one had a pair of flats on it that fitted into the slot on the ball of the gear lever that stops the stick doing a 360.

 

What I did when I removed mine was tap the alloy to 6mm in the 2 holes the pins were in and use 2 6mm bolts. The left one just screws in the correct length to prevent the ball jamming, the right one i reduced the tip down to fit in the slot on the gearstick, this bolt was longer and I fitted a 6mm nut on it, insert the stick, slide the top cover on and insert the 6mm left hand bolt with locktight and just nip up, the right hand fit the 6mm bolt with the reduced peg into the stick slot, now wind the bolt in until you feel it binding on the ball of the stick, now back it off to allow propr gear selection and then lock up with the nut with locktight on threads and nut.

Just buy a replacement remote assembly and gearstick, saves all sorts of hassle, then you can sell the quickshit as a ready to fit unit onto someone else...
