85% is a recormended amount, its talked about alot when towing caravans and such. Its not a legal requirement.
And ofcourse everyone will have different cars and need to calculate their own legal weights in accordance to license and towing vehicle.

Sorry, am i wrong??! carlos said:
Technical permissible maximum towable mass of the trailer
braked (kg) 1600
Unbraked (kg) 550
Meaning he can pull a braked trailer up to a total laden mass of 1600kg, surely?

i have a brian james clubman twin axle trialer, it is about 300kg bare weight, and can take 1000kg so a total of 1300kg.
the bed is 11ft 5.5ft, which is perfect for a mini, the total length is around 14ft.
there is not a chance you be able to quickly put it on its side or on its end to store it.
but it does fit through a standard 7ft wide garage door.
most of the top end trailer. ifor williams, brain james, woodford, all have good security on them
mine has a locked hitch, wheel bar off the studs, chassis stamped,it is chained up with a big chain, blocked in behind a gate and has a car in front,

Trailer towing and trailer law is a bit of a minefield. You can be prosecuted for being overweight even if you have an empty trailer.
Unplated and homemade trailers are nighmare, like I said before no plate means you're capacity will be judged as the weakest component.
To save hassle I sold my homemade one and bought an ifor williams

Nice looking trailer - far nicer than the home made one, particularly if your delivering to a customer.
I found the ifor ones are a good base price but like Porsche they take the pee with the extras (ie £100 for a winch fitting bracket and £130 for a hand-winch... plus vat!)

I could not see a base price on the website.
but I'm also the same can't justify losing the space to keep a full trailer to only use it a couple of times a year if that.
