Still a lot of work to do, plus looking at moving out this coming year so might get to a point and really slow down again

Been out in the cold again today pretty sure my body hates me.

Subframe started like this on both turrets.

39FCC767-3EF3-4B4C-9F03-957D7A157CD1_zps

Then ended up like this

69C25B1D-E21B-4C7A-8B07-A0F3A394F4E1_zps

After getting both to the same state along with the back part of the frame I decided to pull the welder out and go around some of the seams and add so more welds.

FC375C75-B9D1-4B78-BB4E-C7F8079EBF57_zps

I now just have the front parts on top to clean up and seam weld around the engine mounts.

It looks worse than it is because it was in the garage when I was doing all the grinding it has lots of metal dust sat on top of it.

If I manage to actually get up early tomorrow before work I will add some strengthening to the towers and add some triangle plates to the tie bar ears along with tying the floor mounting points into the frame. bought enough stone chip and black paint, to paint it once it's all done. Also thinking of opening up the drive shaft holes to allow the pot joints through.

All for now

When I cleaned up my rear Subby the main problem I had was preventing it flash rusting before I painted it :-)

Nice welding, what's the Wolf Compressor like, I heard some good things about them. I am rebuilding my shed and refitting my garage this year and need a more compact but more powerful compressor capable of running tools.

My welding is actually good now days haha. The subframe is currently in the house 😏 So should be ok for now. Going to clean any off anyway and then quick coat of kurust before painting.

The small wolf compressor is good, I painted the car with it but now I have a 3hp 50L one and it's much better lol. Small one is good for little tools but struggles with cutting tools and you have to wait for pressure to build a lot

Never really got on with Kurust and also tried Electrolytic and Citrix Acid Rust Removal during my resto but the best stuff I have found by far is Bilt Hamber Deox Gel.

Absolutely brilliant stuff!!

I literally will go all out with different wire wheels and then with filament wheels until you cannot see the rust. Will then put a tiny bit on and that's it not failed me yet lol. I did that with my driving light surrounds on my 205 last year and no rust has come back through. I did look at using other stuff just never bought any cause I'm lazy haha

Nothing to report on the car at the moment. Started cleaning up front subframe but waiting for some time between work and decent weather to get it finished. Just letting people know I'm still going to finish it at some point hahaha.

All for now

before you spend ages on subframes, I have been quoted £80 to blast and powder coat  including zinc rich primer for both front and rear frames, but looking good

I'll ask my nephew, he knows someone who does powder coating. May be worth getting mine done as well

That seems very cheap for both?
