No 12V Ignition To Startermotor
Best Answer Thilemann , 03 April 2015 - 07:23 PM
The problem with the starter, was the big relay. It had a bad soldering, so after giving it some new tin, it was running again.
Messing so much with the relay, i accidentally broke a wire (It had obviously been repaired before), so after resoldering the wire back in place, the fuel pump was working again, and my mini was again running. Thanks to all who took the time, to help :)

not really, but
I can get the engine to turn over by pressing the coil, same for the petrol pump so that's a bit of progress
the main one I would of thought that as soon as the ing was turned on it would click across too?
not sure about the heater but that would not be so obvious
I think I ma\y have to get a auto electrician to have a look
im not sure about the imobliser because the last owner said he had it disabled
also the body of the ecu seems to have a reading of 12 volts from a earth, but will not light up a test bulb, this is really baffling me

Can you get your car running, by short wirering the starter, when the key is in ignition? If you can do that, you "just" have to trace it back from the 12v signal cable on the starter. (It goes directly to the relay we've been talking about). Start by testing if there is connection from the cable to the relay. If there is a connection, then check if the relay gets 12v when turning the key.

SUCESS
I AM SO HAPPY
from zero to hero thanks so much all you guys, just a school boy error
all that was wrong was that some nob (me)
had connected two large ring terminals to the starter motor live rather than to earth,
clipped them onto a jump lead to earth and
first I hear the fuel pump prime, and then what I think was the step motor click into life, I turn the key to crank and low and behold the engine turns over and yes we have a spark,
happy is an understatement
I know im not there yet cause its not got any fuel in the tank and she is not purring like a kitten yet yet but big big step tonight
again I cant thank you guys enough

so tonight or tomorrow, I will be adding some fuel to the tank, after blanking off original carb line
fill her up with coolant,
fit gear change rod
fit the two loose wires to earth
and very important, running ducting from exhaust to outside (it been in the garage that long that I have a stood wall in front of the garage door lol )
oil and filter have been changed,
then it will be time to fire the old gal up after about 10 years
fingers crossed I will still be smiling later
looking at my list it could well be tomorrow
anything you would recommend ?
give it a few turns without the rotor arm in to allow the oil to circulate?

It's an SPi in a pickup body so what pump and return have you fitted to her? A modified pickup tank or something more interesting?

Was looking at welding 3 new lines into the tank but after some research on the web I found a great way to do it using two elliptical rings bolted either side of the tank with about 12 m5 cap screws and nuts and then using some 8mm Copper bulkhead fittings, like the ones used for oil central
heating supply
I then put one in the tank filler neck for the breather
I can add some pics if it will help anyone
The pickup started after about 15 seconds of cranking tonight so it's going very well at the moment
