I changed my fuel filter today (well at least tried). it was quickly apparent that this had never been done in almost 20 years.

I had real trouble getting the union adapter out of the filter. with the filter in a vice, i managed to twist the end fitting right from the filter, that is how rusted on the adapter was. that was fine, since i was able to put the end in a vice, in the end i stripped the threads of the adapter when i finally managed to loosen it from the remainder of the adapter.

I have now noticed that the adapter is 22 quid. blooming heck! is this likely going to be a fitting i can buy elsewhere or is it mini specific?

Any suggestions for places to get it cheaper?

I had a bugger of a job getting my filter off last year, like yours it obviously hadn't been touched in years, but it had started causing us problems so it had to be changed. In the end I swapped the filter out for a standard push fit type from a Peugeot that fitted in the holder. I had to swap out the metal fuel pipe from the tank to the filter with soime rubber pipe, but I'll be able to change the fuel filter very easily next time.  There are a number of threads on the same change knocking about.

Here are a couple of threads.
