Hi;

After a mammoth grinding session to remove the remnants of the drivers side sill from the door step the passenger door has been splattered with grinding sparks. I have also noticed that the windscreen has also been damaged!!!

This is something I had not budgeted for and could be a major set back, I remember reading about 4 years ago that welding sparks could damage glass but I thought grinding sparks would be to cool by the time they reached the glass, it seems not!!!

There are now hundreds of tiny specks of metal stuck to the glass.

After googling it may seem that running a stanley blade may help somewhat but I guess this is an MOT failure in the making.

Anyone got any tips!! (apart from cover the glass up before working on the car).

Sad day indeed :-(

Look in machine mart, if I remember correctly they do a glass polishing kit.

Sadly I have to agree with Nick, you may get lucky and polish them out but I very much doubt it. You could try a wanted ad on here, glass doesn't usually fetch a lot of money and you may find a set for little more than beer money.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case, I think there was some glass in the freebies section ages ago :-(

I'll have a go with the Stanley blade, otherwise second hand wanted, I have already bought a set of front and rear seals because I was going to front screen out to repair the Scuttles and the both the front and rear seals look knackered and old.

Just found this old thread same deal.

I did the same - had to get new glass but look in the ads on here. There's often glass for sale dead cheap.

Had a look on Ebay and there's a screen in Barnstaple (5 miles away) £35 might make an offer?

Sorry to hear of your disaster. What do you guys do with the glass to prevent such things short of removing it of course lol. Just wrap it in an old blanket or something ?

old fire blankets are perfect. They are also date stamped so get thrown regularly by large comapnies, council buildings, schools etc etc. I have a few I have acquired over the years. They don't last for ever but do the job for a long time.
