Personally I'd stick with the older NiMh packs, purely because they are cheaper, easier to look after and the older Tamiya's were never designed to run continually. Something that will be a problem for that TL-01 based buggy with the limited gearing and over sized wheels.

And that disassembled nitro above, looks to be the on road version of the Gv buggy I've got, Probably a Gv/Great Vigour P190. Spares of witch, as they are getting on for nearly two decades old are next to impossible to find. I'd love to get the 2 speed working in mine again (converted it to single gearing) But the shaft I wore out in mine are just not available.

Cheers for the advice, think I'm going to go for a 4000mh ish NiMh for now just to see if it's all still working as it should before i start getting too excited!

Hobby kings postage is twice the price of the battery though!

I'd personally go for around half that, but two of. As a 2200mh takes around 45mins to charge at 3amps on my peak charger.

Ok, well they have the 2000mh and the 3000mh in stock in the UK so will probably go for the 3000mh.

This is my charger and is also about 20 years old so will probably be waiting a week for anything to powerfull to charge!

Beware, that is a charger for NiCD batteries and not NiMH batteries. They are 2 different battery chemistries and whilst it may charge the NiMH packs, it may over or undercharge them. Neither are ideal, but it will probably be fine for your simple testing. Keep an eye on it though.

I really would recommend getting a more modern charger, they can be gotten for not a lot of money and have adjustable charge currents and are more compatible with different types of battery. It's been a while since I was into RC but I remember the iMax B6 (I think?) being a popular yet cheap charger which can charge all types of battery including LiPO.

That's the 30 mins charger with the ticking 'oven' timer dial on the front. Witch will be fine charging up a 1400mh pack but on a fast charge won't fully charge a 2000mh or 3000mh pack.

The charger I've been using is an old yellow and black pro-peak varipulse 2500 (I think the new ones are light blue), witch you just plug//set it all up, press the button and it beeps when the pack is fully charged.

That doesn't look nitro look like proper fuel lol. Brushless lipo stuff can demolish nitro now anyways not worth the mess and the hastle.

Unless it's something that size

Brushless Lipo doesn't sound as good as a tuned 3 1/2cc Nova Rossi pulling 26 + thousand revs

on the pipe with  25% Nitro fuel on a good track ;D

I have no doubt that that is true.
