    Starting My Mini Up

Hello everyone,

I recently bought my first Mini — a 1991, 998cc — and it had been running great up until today, but this morning I jumped in the car and drove down the street, and as I got to the first junction, I realised my indicators weren't working.

After a check of the electronics, I found out that only the headlights, taillights, hazards and interior light were working (the horn worked during the first test, but stopped after that).

I've checked all the fuses, and they are all fine; however, being useless at electronics, I can't seem to find what the failed systems have in common with each other. I would be eternally grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. The priority would be to get the indicators working, as I'll need them to get to a garage!

Many thanks in advance!

The hazard light switch is where the indicators and hazard circuits meet and it is a common failure point, even if you buy a new switch and its not that it wont be a waste in the long run, lol.

It's funny you should say that; the hazard switch is clearly much newer than the others — maybe the previous owner had some troubles with it too...

And new parts often tend to be worse than unused old parts too! Could be the stalk or a relay too, loose connection etc. (its not actually a relay but a flasher unit).

I suggest you download the basic electrics course in the FAQs Electrical section and the circuits are also there for the indicators, and under Fuses post the circuits covered on each fuse is listed
