Whilst your stripping, top arm refurb, steering rack refurb, tie bar bushes, engine/ subby mounts...

This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, things that I should be doing while I have these parts stripped from the car. I've added top arm refurb kits, tie bar bushes and engine and subframe mounts to my order. What's involved in refurbing the steering rack? They aren't too pricey so I could buy a new one but if you reckon it's worth refurbing then that's what I'll do.

All i do is try my local motor factors, they always have reconditioned mini parts available(if not its a 2 day wait) before trying the big suppliers... The last refurbished steering rack i bought was £20 exchange, 5 years ago!

There'd be a better chance of my local motor factors having a steering rack for an ac cobra! I'm in Ireland so I don't even bother trying local places. It's only about £55 for a new one anyway so I might just go for it.

Ask them if they can do a deal to refurbish your unit?
