Hi and apologies if this has already been covered but couldn't find any info that could help.

I just cant get the engine to start it turns over I have spark and fuel pump works.

  • I have spark at the plugs
  • I have fuel on plugs and injector so fuel getting in
  • popping can be heard from under the airbox, tried with aribox removed to see what the noise was and a puff of flames is created now and then.
  • I have hopefully set up the dizzy correctly using sprockets guide
  • I re-set up the tappets today and still nothing

any help would be apreciated

How strong is the spark? I had exactly the same problem. It would start eventually but would be very gutless. Turned out to be a weak spark caused by a corroded rotor arm

it seems a good spark to me and I got a good shock when I stupidly held the lead, how would you tell a good or poor spark.

rotor arm seems to be in good condition.

I have also checked the crank sensor which I am getting voltage from

Have you changed anything since it was last working?

I've never had the engine running, I bought the shell and engine and rebuilt

Does it have good compression?

Getting a jolt off the leads could mean that the leads are breaking down and also even a weak spark at the plugs takes many thousands of volts to produce.

I was holds no the leads to test for spark when I had the shock, haven't tested compression yet and am looking at buying a gauge to do this.

When I installed the cam I installed it rotated everything and it would hit l, I kept removing and reinstalling until everything would rotate nicely without hitting. Obviously not the best method I'm guessing but trying to teach myself.
