Thanks for the info. Typo' on the Hoosier sorry! My mini is a tarmac circuit track car but still road legal. I'm running AO32R's on 10x6s. So to confirm do the Avon CR6ZZ road legal slicks have superior dry grip to the yokos? I'm doing 55sec round mallory park on the yoko's, just wondering if the CR6ZZ may help to shave some time off

I can confirm I am getting better grip & improved lap times with my Avon CR6ZZ's over my Yoko AO32r's. Much stiffer sidewall so the contact patch stays nice and flat under hard cornering. They take a fair bit longer to warm up but once they are there, they stay there and give a nice, consistent, confidence inspiring performance. Without doubt the best road legal track tyre for 10s is the CR6ZZ.

Next stop... mig arches & dunlop slicks :-)

They take a fair bit longer to warm up

Maybe not the best for hillclimbing then...

Apologies for going off subject! For hill climbing & staying road legal then A032r would still be the choice. For Full slicks, something soft and sticky from hoosier.

check the Blue book for approved tyres for the class.

for 10s yes Hoosier. 13s maybe Avon.

I would say the avon's are the ones to go for, as duds100 said they have a much much stiffer side wall compared to say an A032 or dunlop D93J. They are pricey and the tread looks very old school, but they certainly do the job.  I would just adjust the PSI for the conditions, 27psi for dry and 25-26psi for wet conditions

I imported mine from Slovenia (£130ea), although sterling is no longer what it was against the Euro so may infact not be such a great deal now.

I suppose the question is whether, for hill climbing, you can switch them on quick enough.

In the vid below I set my 165/70r10 Avons CR6ZZ's to 20PSI cold all round & they rose to around 26PSI when I measured them after the 15 minute session. Once they warmed up after a couple of laps they gave good consistent grip so I would agree with warning634 on the pressures advice. I think I would struggle to overheat them even at qualifying pace. Not something that I could say about the 32r's. The car I am following from just under 5mins into the footage is on 13" rims with Toyo R888 cut slicks and I seem to have superior grip on my 10s which gives you an indication of just how good these are.

The CR6ZZ I bought in May were £136 each in the UK ;-)

Wow that's good - if that includes delivery that's only £30 more than I paid for a set. Where was that from? Best I found in UK was about £160+delivery, hence I looked abroad.

If you are competing you should be talking to B.M.T.R for Avon tyres.

From BMTR as Nick says - the UK main agent for Avon motorsport.
Delivery is on top, I think £30 a set. Or collect from a circuit they're at or from their depot at Birmigham, just off M6.

Awesome, that's good to know when I come around to replacing my road tyres.

Also, I want to do some tarmac circuit racing in my car so I need slicks but I would like to keep my group 2 arches & avoid using Miglia arches if at all possible. I could get away with something a little wider than my 165/70r10 CR6ZZs but not too much ideally.

I have found that Hoosier do a 19.5" x 6.5-10 road racing slick tyre which look the perfect size but they only come in a R25B soft compound. Do you think this compound would to be too soft for running a 20 lap race around Brands Hatch GP? My car is 560kg race weight with driver.

If they are not advisable does anyone know of another 165/70r10 sized full slick in a more suitable compound?

Has anyone got any indication on the likely status for the 2017 tyre list and ongoing changes? Given the upheavel caused this year with the tyre regs, and that the  165 70 10 A032 seems exempt from EU tyre labelling regs is it safe to assume it is likely to remain compliant for the forseeable future in the roadgoing classes?

To be honest if they change the regs again I will be minded to give up on the road going class and go non-road going with the added compliations that entails but would prefer not to.

Hoosier are rubbish, we use them in National Hot Rod racing, (circa£130 for an H10 slick) and the Avon equivalent is far superior even when used with tyre blankets

2017 tyre list is available on the MSA website for this coming season as is the rest of the 2017 blue book.
