the adjusters here will turn through full adjustment over 1800 and can do a full 3600 turn from full slack, to full adjustment and back again. It's likely you know and your garage too, but the adjusters are supposed to be turned to take up the adjustment in the same direction as the wheel turns. None the less, if they are not corrected fitted / made, then this will make no difference.

that's what I meant - but you explain much better - there are 2 positions that the adjuster can sit against the shoe ,

one way is more prone to the return spring pulling the adjuster back , other way is correct

I doubt loctite would be strong enough or reliable enough to stop it returning either (silly idea of mine)

Thanks for comments. There is no obvious way of removing or re shimming adjusters. Since my last post I have compared the original 1979 ones removed and found more shims on the original. I am going to refit one as it was working and only changed to have a matching set. The other original was Infact replaced by last owner with an aftermarket one. This has a loose adjuster.

The two new sets the adjusters start stiff and hold shoes tight in place. In just 5 miles the action of the shoes being sprung back have loosened the adjusters so much they are hanging down and not even touching shoes. You can move the, like a gearstick! They cannot now be adjusted to give a full pedal and you can adjust by hand, no spanner. All 5 of the backplates with loose adjusters appear to be the same manufacturer. Interestingly mini sport, mini spares, someford and others are all out of stock of these now.

I am trying to find a second hand front drivers side backplate or hub to fit to get mini working again. I will attempt to return the defective ones to the suppliers. My specialist says they have been redesigned to stop adjusters seizing. Unfortunately they are just too weak to hold shoes in place. So far this problem has cost me £1000 in labour, parts, plus days of my time.

More than £12's worth of time I think. I will speak to the owners or managers of the main mini suppliers to make sure they know of the issues with these backplates. Fortunately I know them all from organising the trade and negotiations for sponsorship at the imm last year. They could all do with selling these kits and then they won't have issue with defective backplates.

They are actually the one's I was trying to find and post up here for you! I have no personal experience with them, however the stiffness of the adjuster is in itself, adjustable! Removing the old adjusters is a little bit of a fiddley job.
