I don't hope you'll take this as an add; I simply wanted to show you my birthday present from my girlfriend, why my car is still stuck with the doctor...

I got a Mini watch!

Yes, it's actually made out of an old Mini.

They've cut and treated the doors, bonnets etc they could use for a watch dial and then they made watches out of it.

I just think that's an awesome idea - why didn't I get that idea myself :)

The watch design is also familiar to all of you, I suppose :)

With the watch I got a small booklet with actual copy of the last registration paper from the car, my watch is made of - and my watch even has the VIN number of that car on the back - LOL.

You probably heard about that concept long before I did, but I really like the idea - and the company is even Danish :)

In case any of you are interested in reading about the concept, they explain it really nice on their web site: http://www.recwatches.com

As I read the process, they cut out the pieces of metal they can use from a scrap Mini. Then these parts will go to China, where they are being grinded down to a few mm thickness, and then the metal is cut out in circles and used as the watch dial.

The particular Mini used for my (and around 500 other watches, as one Mini according to the company becomes around 500 watches) is then documented in the booklet, and the VIN number of that car is moreover stamped on the back case.

I think the process is quite nicely explained on their home page.

Wasn't there a bloke who joined the forum a few months back that worked for this company that gore tore apart?

I like the watch but I can remember the bloke getting quite a lot of stick for it.

I see the thread. Guess that was the owners of the company. I'm not affiliated with the company (although we live in the same country :), just to be clear!

I also know people have different opinions. Didn't search for the previous thread, sorry, so I wasn't aware that you've already heard of the concept.

I find it nice because it carries a history and it carries my history as well when I wear it. And it's a design I like, it stands out.

I like this, I'm not a watch person, not warn one for over 15 years, but I like this, to many gold coins for me though :(

As I can see, the price is around £190 + pp (REC webshop).
