Damage to the lips and stuff. At least they all have their little centre caps.

Is there supposed to be something printed on the centre caps for rostyles?

On our SA cars, no. I don't know about the UK versions.

Wonder if you could get some made for the other set of rostyles that you have.

Maybe a Leyland whirlpool sticker in blue.

We could get some domed stickers made, like we did with the Dunlop D1 stickers I had made. They might look a tad modern though.

Nothing really different from the last picture, but they're now done. On to the next bits then :

Going back over this thread i've noticed the doors might not be right.

If they were 1970's UK spec doors (& not SA built) the door frame panel should have an indent pressed into the bottom (where the ends of the door seal should meet) like this one-

http://www.ebay.co.u...R0AAOSwPcVVjUx8

It was omitted on later cars.

1970's door hinges were also different....

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

If you notice where the roll pin is -the hinge is chamfered, MK3's didn't have a chamfer.

I warned you i'm an anorak :techsupport:  (at least where Mk3's are concerned)

I think being an SA car, there will be differences.

I've never noticed that indent before, so possibly a feature not appearing on the SA made cars. I need to check some of the other cars we have,

In terms of the hinges, I think they used the same hinges as the Elf/Hornet Mk3 cars - the unique SA Mk3 (like mine) also used these doors and hinges, which were later replaced with the updated Clubby doors. It's quite possible that the hinges stayed the same. I could be wrong, obviously.

At long last, Photobucket has stopped being a b**ch and now works!

Got some updates on this. I've been busy with a couple cosmetic items for when the car is ready to go back together. First off, the tail lights. They were looking rather sad and the chrome had definitely seen better days in terms of shine. With a bit of elbow grease, I got a result. This is what I started with :

Lenses :

Housings :

IMG_20160619_124959_zpsgkbe4uxh.jpg

I washed the lenses and then sanded them down with some 1500 wet/dry using water and soap. Using some Meguiars ScratchX I buffed the lenses and got rid of any further scratches and rubbings from the sandpaper. To give them some protection and shine I used some Meguiars Carnuba Wax.

This is what I ended up with (I did the reflectors separately and with the same process, including polishing the metal surround/backing) :

The light housings needed a bit more work. I had to get rid of black paint that was on the chrome and wash off years of dirt. Using metal polish and Meguiars Carnuba Wax, I got them up to a shine :

I still need some lense gaskets and body seals, but I couldn't resist having a look. Fitted the lenses to the housings :

And onto the car :

I then moved onto doing the grille!

This is what I started with :

IMG_20160610_132611_zpsq5g0n1vn.jpg

Also, pictures that aren't often seen, but sometimes needed :

Centre badge fixings :

IMG_20160610_132602_zpsrnxo00wr.jpg

And GT badge fixings and bracket :

IMG_20160610_132556_zps6pmrcrm1.jpg

I then moved onto dismantling the whole item into its various bits :

IMG_20160610_133805_zps7upwnunz.jpg

I started with the centre badge :

IMG_20160610_142443_zpsrhaphd22.jpg

Using some metal polish, Meguiars ScratchX and Meguiars Carnuba Wax I ended with this :

IMG_20160611_173807_zpswxgkpkcr.jpg

The GT badge got the same treatment :

IMG_20160610_142452_zpsnkiu2wyh.jpg

IMG_20160611_173835_zpstmz103g3.jpg

The grille was the difficult part. I used the same process as the badges, but it took me considerably longer to finish. I did in all the nooks and crannies front and back to get it bright and shiny again. The reflectors got the same treatment as the rear light lenses.

IMG_20160612_112927_zpsvq5fhzlk.jpg

And lastly, fitted up to the car to show the difference it makes :

No repainting was done at all.
