I've removed the coil and put the multimeter directly into the wires that go to the coil and am getting a reading of just over 11v. so that should mean power is getting from the battery to the coil? I'm guessing this is what I was supposed to do earlier!

Ok so I'm being stupid. I've put the coil back on and am finally using the multimeter correctly and am getting a reading of 13v through the coil.
So I'm guessing the coil is not broke? What do I do next?

Thanks for your patience guys.

Take the dizzy cap off, flick the points open or bridge them with a screwdriver, is there a spark there (ign on)

Is the spring loaded carbon brush in the centre of the cap intact?

Check the points gap while you are there

There is a spark when I flick the points open & the inside of the cap looks nice and clean with the centre spring working

The points gap is closed so I will clean that up and create a gap. Might be on to something here

So I've cleaned up the points gap and created a gap which sparks when bridged with a screwdriver. Inside of dizzy looks nice and clean. It's still just turning over as before. I've checked again and there is no spark at the spark plugs.

The rotor arm looks quite worn/dirty as do the dizzy cap connections, try cleaning with some fine wet and dry or wire wool

Ok, so now 2 days on. I've spent the day fitting the mini spares stage 1 kit which has all gone smoothly, until I turned the key. I have the same problem, it's turning over but won't fire. Fuel is going to carb and there is a spark at the plugs. Gap is still good in the dizzy and I've not touched the ht leads. What could be wrong!?
