hello all,i have also just replaced the fuel pump on a 92 spi,all working well and pumping away but the problem that i do have is when turning the key to prime the pump the old pump would prime and then turn off,on the new pump it is pumping all the time is this standard with replacement pumps.

Sounds like the fuel pump contacts could be fused. On turning the key to ignition on, the MFU (multi function unit - aka relay pack) gets a ground from the MEMS ECU and runs the pump for about 5 secs then drops out. This is to pressurise the system.
It's doesn't have a pressure switch so there is no feedback. If yours is running all the time try giving a calibrated "dunt" to the black box mounted on your servo bracket.

Failing that you need to break out a multimeter and look in the the pinned thread about relay packs.
