If the primer is Cellulose, then a standard cellulose thinners is the correct type to use.

It would help if you told us what primer and thinners you have if you could?

I suppose so, if your happy to be robbed by the cost of it. Youd be better getting a 5 litre can from your local paint factors assuming your using a gun and are topcoating with celly too. Much cheaper this way.

Hammerite thinners will also react,   If using primer use cheap thinners when putting on the paint use best thinners.

please dont give bad advice unless you know for certain.

As has been said, 5 litres of standard thinners can be had for around £10.

Might as well get the correct stuff. Do it right, do it once

It helps if you are spraying in damp conditions but isn't necessary in good weather or in a heated area/booth

I had some of that tetrosyl stuff just for washing my gun.
I asked the guy in my paint shop why it was such a nasty brown colour and they said that the colour comes from rust inside reusable drums it is stored in.
A painter that was in the shop,at the same time said the same thing.

Horrible stuff. Only used it once and never again.
Probably explains why it stinks too.
