Well finally bit the bullet and have ordered my camera. Went for a Nikon D3300. Ordered it via John Lewis as I had £80 voucher. Collect it Sunday but need to wait for memory card to arrive via Amazon. Can't wait to start capturing decent photos
What lenses come with it?

I have a D3100 or D3200 (can't remember which one - I think the 3200) but I haven't used it in ages and ages - I just rely on my phone. I keep thinking I'll give it a go, but then I get really lazy and there is nothing interesting near me to take photos of.
I find that actually, my phone is good enough for most day to day stuff that I would need; I never use the zoom because it's digital and as said above, you start to get problems straight away with that. This means there are some obvious limitations. At the moment, I only have the standard 18-55mm lens so a bit limited. I have used the 200 and 300mm lenses in the past, and they were amazing (I used the 300mm for taking pics of the moon and they were brilliant).
It is good that people are still using proper cameras though - everyone with an iPhone thinks they are an amazing photographer!

I know these are not the best lenses but will be fine whilst I play with it and learn the various modes and features. Will look to buy a new lens next year

I know what you mean. I have an iphone 5 and for the odd phone here and there it's fine. But the camera is very out dated compared to the latest iphone 6 etc
I have kids and hate it when there is a perfect opportunity to snap a photo but it always seems blurry, or our of focus or poor light quality etc.
I genuinely like the idea of learning how to use my new DSLR properly to capture some nice photos. I live about 10min walk from the sea so great place to practice

My 18-105 is ideal for every day use. I'd love an 18-200, but its all about the money.
I also want a 500mm lens.
I want a lot of things.

Ha! Join the club. I've got a list of "home improvements" as long as your arm that need doing before I even consider a new lens
New bathroom, new carpets, new front door, log burner, new kitchen, redecorate lounge.... Etc

There are some phones out there as good as or better than the iPhone. The Sony phones are very good. Samsung are apparently pretty good but I don't like the phones.I know what you mean. I just need to try and find some motivation to get back into it.

Iv got the D3200 and love it need to do a course when I have some free time really to lean how to use all the functions and lean how to use photoshop but iv managed to get some good pictures with it, I just use the standard lenses that came with it a 18-55mm and 70-300mm.
Took this one at the Moto GP last year

Good work. Never easy trying to shoot a fast moving object from a distance
