Judging by Facebook there's a different type of bodywork you are into at the minute

Well it seems I've sorted my welding issues. It's safe to say I'll never be a Sonikk or a Ben O but the welds are much better. Next up will be inner sills on the GT

I'm getting there too, one of my biggest problems was not enough gas coming out of the nozzle.

I dropped my wire speed down a couple and it's made a massive difference. Welds even sound nicer

Had a few hours on the GT today. First thing I've learnt is removing the inner sills with the companion bin in situ is a pain in the arse. because it's already upside down on a roof rack we just got on with it. With a bit of improvisation, grinding, drilling and swearing we did it. Now ready to weld the new sill in.

Second thing I learnt was that if, and it's a big if, I ever try to restore a mini again I'll be making a spit

Third thing I learnt is if I'm going to weld it in my welding will need to be better.

But I had a GREAT time learning, can't wait to get back on it. I'll try to get some pics up later, ran out of time to grab the camera before getting the kids from school

Well today started like this

DSCF3600_zpslmkfovoy.jpg

And ended like this

Managed to get the new step welded in. then the inner sill fettled and in place ready for welding next time. Couldn't resist clamping the new outer sill on.

Still got issues with welding but will get there

I'm lap welding the inner sill. mainly because I'm not confident enough to butt weld such a long piece. So clamping the 2 panels together with small tek screws before welding. This car was never intended to be a show pony so this method should  provide a strong weldDSCF3596_zps7myhjyio.jpg

Excellent progress.

One tip for the future, you don't need quite so many plug weld holes as you have in the step.

Every 1-1.5" is fine and it will save you lots of time when dressing them back.

Keep it up!

Ben

Yeah. I got a bit giddy with the Makita. Don't worry, the passenger side will be half as many. Thanks
