Ohlins are the best with a lot more sharper damping, quantum was very good, avos would go soft mid race almost like they over heat if such.
All depends on budget

I believe some people are still running the Spax dampers, but a lot of us have moved away. I personally use the AVO dampers available from Selby engineering, these have a different internal setup suited to the sevens

I didnt think Charlie was running protech anymore, but he might be. The Avo has no issues when used on sevens but they are valved and built for that purpose, I have no background info on the Miglia spec dampers to know what might cause that.
It really depends on budget and what you are actually looking to get from them. If its just a low/average spec track day car then really the protech/ other generic off the shelf will be fine.

Lewis - i am now running quantums mate, haven't actually done a test to see what the difference is between them and the protechs the only reason i bought quantum is because i managed to pick them up cheap.
IMO the best value for money shock is protech especially if its for road / track use. they are also bloody brilliant with customer service!

Thanks, are those off the shelve mini specific Avo's that have been revalved or their larger diameter 'generic' motorsport damper that can be had in all sorts of different lengths?
I'm looking at replacing my 15 year old Spax adjustables, either with Protech for overall light weight, Spax upside down for low unsprung weight, or Avo motorsport alloy dampers for again light weight and overall more sophistication(?) Not planning to spend Quantum or Öhlins money.
The very valuable comments made above from people with track experience have me think towards Protech as positively commented on by Charlie Budd in the light of much more expensive alternatives....the comment on Avo Miglia's going off mid race had me rethink the part on added sophistication.
Maybe I should just step away from all this volatile cottage industry stuff and rely on the likes of Bilstein to get things spot on for a weekend road/track warrior despite the fact these come non adjustable?
Hmmmm, decisions......

I've got a set of protechs, they're amazing value. I've seen Gaz and spax shocks and never been impressed with their quality or customer care.

I have run KYB, Gaz, Spax and Koni before. All ok but the Bilstein B6 I have on the car now are superb.
