Since max torque in my 1275 is about 3k ish i tend to sit here witch is about 60 ish with a 3.1 FD

You sit a 60 with a 1275??? My std MPi cruises at 85-90 aha (with 3.1 diff)

I am working to reduce a lot of the panel resonance over time - just about stopped all the vibrations now, mass loading suspect panels is next - that helps with the 'booming' sound at around 3000 that gets better around 4k

and thanks for all the replies!  I feel a hell of a lot better for everyone being like 'give it some welly!' aha - this I will do... :)

He doesn't have a 276 cam in his MPI, he has a cam with the torque and peak power at much lower revs. I believe, although I don't have the cam graph for the MPI to hand, that peak toprque with an MPI is c.3000 rpm and peak power at c.5600 rpm.

An engine with a 276 must be allowed to rev to get the optimum torque & power. The 276 gives maximum torque at around 4700 rpm and peak power at between 6100 & 6200 rpm, so it needs to rev if it is to work. If it is not used within that rev range the engine is 'over-cammed' and would perform better for its use with a 266 or SW5.

You don't fit a 276 for low cruising revs or quietness on the road. Maybe you have selected the wrong cam for your needs - it happens quite a lot.

Recently I drove my car (1293, weber, mg metro cam and close ratio gearbox) from Melbourne-Perth-Darwin a distance of just over 7000km. I drove at 110km/h at just over 4000 rpm. Most days I'd be on the road for 10 hours. Didn't appear to do any harm to the engine, though I couldn't hear the stereo!

Why wouldn't it be happy doing that? It's a car, made to be driven.
Mine has no back box's and the noise has never bothered me

Quite right too. You don't buy a classic Mini for a smooth and quiet driving experience ;D . Give it some stick!

At the moment mine is sat almost redundant, I have a mk2 golf I'm using as a daily to make sure it's reliable enough to pull the engine out of the mini for the 1330 Build that's in progress.
So taking the mini out once a week means it literally only gets given some stick, upsets the locals, then gets put back in its spot for another week flattening its own battery
