I don’t really need to lose any weight though, as I’m currently 9.4 stone, height of 5foot9 and a 30 (Ish) inch waist. Witch if my maths works out is a bmi of 19.4.

What I do need is to build muscle in my lower back and left leg. I’ll have to see if I still have the picks of the bruising that comes up on my lower back. But I have been told from someone watching that my left leg looks to be a lot weaker than my right, and it was the left hand side of my lower back I pulled a few years back.  Plus what would be a relaxing stroke, the old lady/don’t want to get my head wet head up breaststroke, for me isn’t. Because of the extra stain on my lower back and weaker leg.  So because of my back issues, I start off normally and once my back starts to get tired I switch to using a pull buoy and just using my arms and upper body. I know it might be cheating to some, but if means I can do more or stay in the pool longer I really couldn't care.

Try doing some squats and lunges. Good form, 3 sets of 10 reps 3 times a week should help :) it's all about form.

Wish I could find a decent swimming pool that isn't full of gossiping mothers or toddlers pissing in it. Instead I just use the weights bay.

That's thankfully not a problem I have to deal with, as at both the pools I visit under 16's are banned from the main pools unless its a general swim of a weekends. Now if they could just do something about the easily offended females who have issues with tight, wet form fitting shorts that do show but still keep everything covered, trotting a round in bikinis that are 10 times too small with the constant boob rearranging and dental floss wedges and flabby backsides.  :X

Christ, I feel heavy in comparison. I'm the same height but 12st stone. However, I've probably got a bit more muscle mass than you guys.

A simple weight training routine will help build strength and size - that is the easy bit.

Work with big compound multi-joint free weight exercises (think Barbell Squat, Dead-lift and Bench) and avoid the fixed machines.

DO NOT go blindly into it though, any good gym should and will give you assistance with these exercises - don't just watch YouTube videos and think you know how to do it, ensure someone who knows what they are doing talks you through correct form.  FORM IS PARAMOUNT - bad form equals injuries.

However you need to ensure you are getting the calories in to allow the muscles to grow and repair - this part is the challenging part IMO

My work colleague said he weighs 18 stone, and the same height, maybe slightly taller than me, but fairly well built. LOL. :bah:  I'll try and focus on building my upper body next year. Realised I was fat at 17/18 ish, so lost weight, now I don't like being skinny. :tumble:

Last time I went to the gym I got really hooked on 1 machine, I could only use it for an hour at a time tho as it made me feel really sick. I can't remember what it was called but it had Twix, Pringles, Mars, all sorts...it was ace!!

(I'm sorry I'll stop now) :P

Ant, you don't NEED protein supplements, just good food. It will help fuel your body to do more exercise too!
I don't really take pics of myself, but I reached a goal in my training today, 80kg bench and 110kg deadlift. I'm celebrating with a smug selfie! Zomg what the hell BBQ!!&@£
