When I joined the army, my Phase 1 training was at ATR Winchester. And the Platoon Commander was Capt Winchester.

The Padre there was Padre Christian.

I knew an officer called Major - he was Capt Major then promoted to Major Major.  Same with a guy in the mess - Sgt Sergeant.  Unfortunately when I was a private - I answered the phone to a cockney from 2 Queens (yip - looong time ago!!!) claiming to be Capt Cant, and q my first bollocking for telling him to p off (well I though it was a wind up!!!)

As told to me by the person herself being my boss: In the early days of the Space Shuttle, there were no cell phones and beepers were still very expensive. So, we had a paging system with an operator that you would call when you needed to contact someone and the operator would ask the name of the person, a phone number for the person to call, the system they worked and which areas to page (launch pad, Vehicle Assembly Building, Orbiter Processing Facility. etc.)  One night when she was a subsystem engineer, her counterpart needed to contact her and called the paging system. So he asked the operator - "Would you page Pandora Puckett of flight control systems?" The operator answered - "No, there can not be a real person with such a name." and the operator hung up.

She was very real and eventually became astronaut Robert Crippen's wife. The only astronaut's wedding I was ever invited to.
