No, sadly you can't balance it at home, or just take it to just any mechanic, however competent, because specialist equipment is needed. You need to find a machine shop that can do static and dynamic balancing. An engine reconditioners is a good place to start asking, especially one that does tuning and performance upgrades.

The process can be thought of as being similar to balancing a wheel when you have a new tyre fitted. Indeed, the same balancing machine might do the job, if there was some way of mounting the flywheel assemply accurately on it. The difference is that when balancing a wheel and tyre, weights are added, but when balancing a flywheel, netal is removed by drilling or milling in the correct places.

Did you check the dynamic balance?

On a verto , mine have been out as much as 27 gram, not something you want on a bit of a performance engine!

Was the bottom end balanced with the pulley and flywheel before hand? As that's a fair amount to be out.

Nop, new flywheel with a new pressure plate.

Went preverto shortly after so the whole kit is for sale ( shameless advertising lol)

With all respect, but I wouldn't advise it on a public forum that way. When fitting a new pressure plate one should atleast check the dynamic balance. I think we had a case of this on the forum not too long ago?

Personally (and I stress this is what I do on all my engine builds) I balance the entire bottom end - pulley, crank, flywheel and bolts. Then just change the clutch plate and pressure plate with the bolts in the same place as I'm pretty damn sure the pressure plate is balanced during manufacturing. I also weigh the pistons and conrods to make sure they're all the same weight. A combination of all this has meant I've had amazingly smooth engines including one running 650bhp (obviously not an A series lol).
