Another quick up date over the last few days

Decided to keep 13" wheels on the mini as everything els just looks to big to me only problem is that 13 inch wheels will not fit over the mgf rear arms. So the solution is going to be to put front suspension on the rear I have a spare front subframe so I will swap all that over when I get two minutes. Manages to wedge a 13" metro wheel on the rear to help line the shell up.

So when it come to ling the shell up I pushed what's left of the build head up to the subframe and assumed that was right because no one modifies the front lower bulk head to fit a metro frame. But I was looking at the arch positions and the shell just looked to far back then I clicked that running a metro subframe the wheels sit 13mm forward doesn't sound like much but it was enough to throw the hole arch out so I had to re cut the cage out only tack welded on thankfully cut some more of my bulkhead away but this then gave me the room to slide the shell forward 13mm I also gained 13mm of engine space doing this winning so this is how it sits now

Now with the cage welded into its final position the shell needed to come back off to finish space framing only think is my garage Roof is not tall enough to lift it off so made the most of the wheels on my much evolving bench

Liking the build, are you going to box in those double gussets?? that would make them stronger.

Hi thanks yes I am going to box them off some time in the build I was just looking at running a side exit. Exhaust from there 😂

Quick build update made a start on bracing up my spaceframe

Also made a start on the steering column because I need to work the spaceframe around it and I was getting a bit worried that there was going to be no pedal room

Quick update I have managed to get my hands on a set of wheels and so some big modifications to my cage cars starting to take shape now

First off got these 7x13 alley cats for a bargain price obviously they don't fit my metro hubs YET I have orderd a set of 4 sprigot rings so the wheels are central to the hub just need drill the PCd out to the mini now

24442DCA-B2E5-4544-8EA7-EA0C902DAF47_zps

Metro brakes fit super tight In these wheels around 3-5 MM clearance I was going to try and run the mgf brakes not shure if they will fit now tho.

39CF528C-2ED0-4628-BAAB-D749BB619C1A_zps

Had a quick look and measure the mini sticks out 75mm past my chassis so a ruff fitting of the wing and the wheels are going to sit somewhere around here 😆 going to need some monster arches

Seen this at the mini show on the weekend going to run the same kit I think looks amazing and the arches should cover

Also spoke to the guy at Watson who was also at the mini show I had to come home with something so I picked up a pair of springs for my front suspension

I will mock up some plates for them when I get chance not as if it's going anywhere soon lmao

So I got a bit bored with the front and had a debate with my mate to see if the car would spin around in my garage with the door shut fair to say I won and it did lmao so I started working on the rear.

Ran some more 100x50 box section over the back as I cut all the strength out when I made the transmission tunnel

Also cut the ends off and tied the two pieces together

There where big problems with my cage the rear diagonal was in the way of the seat going back and I'm 6ft I need all the leg room I can get so back out with the grinder cut for some re designing
1FAB069F-23D8-4DEA-ABE9-2D287B14AE54_zps

Added some bracing from the subframe to heel panel and heel panel back to the cage

Seat sits further back now

BEAAF55B-A5FE-4469-89CE-8C25E85F3DBF_zps

Ran a harness bar and some supports on the A frames made the hole lot stronger going to run an x from both corners of the subframe next to support the rear

Should look something like this when done

Found this old pick from a while ago can't wait to get another engine

Time for a small update havnt had to much time to work on the car at the moment. Cooling down on the bracing for now as I have ran out of steel and I think if I go to mad right now it's going to make building the rest of the car hard work .

What I have been up to is the front suspension as you may know the metro used hydrolytic suspension no good for me I bought a pair of all speed springs so I started mocking up the brackets to hold it all in place made from 6mm steel

Ruffley cut out

Then bolted on for a test fit

Spring is tight but can still be removed as eventually the backing plate will not be removable

Made a mock shocker at the length of a standard mini shock and mounted the shock bracket may make some thing a bit more fancy one day

Next is to replicate this for the other side then the front is ready to hit the floor one day

Thank you sawyer well I have some more to come been busy last week welded up the struts and mocked up a front end.

Got the welder set up nice and heigh was happy with this bit of welding even got a 6mm piece of steel to turn gold

5093A8F8-7F38-427F-A86F-EF15D907B973_zps

Also bent up some bars and run another piece of 100x50 box section across to make a start on the bulkhead

Will get another set of these bent up longer so they will line up with my dash brace and then I will make a filler plate out of 2mm steel should give the front some serious strength

Striped any thing I didn't need of power steering, air con, inlet and exhaust manifold . You may be wondering where the mini went well that had a little trip to the corner of my street for the day. Had to re fit the shell as I was stuck for space. Good job I put casters on my trolley but I will say the handling was shocking
