I am planning a 1380 - 7 port engine (specialist components head with ecu)

The car is an Spi so I need to meet the spi emissions figures here in Sweden.

CO must be within 0,5

HC within 100
CO@2500rpm within 0,3
Lambda 0,95-1,09

Specialist components recommend the calver RE13 cam which is similar to the 285/Kent286, as i understand these are too high lift and lumpy for the emissions levels i want. Speaking to SC about my needs they recommend a cam with 260 degrees. is this a bit tame?

I have looked at the minispares evolution001 cam

SEAT DURATION ON INLET 264 AND EX 268

CAM LIFT IN 264 EX 289

VALVE LIFT IN 327 EX 358 STD

VALVE LIFT IN 393 EX 430 1.5 LIFT

should be timed in at 107degree or

This to me seems appropriate for my needs, but will it really get the best out of the engine?

If you couldn't tell already I am struggling with a lack of knowledge so any help appreciated.

You don't say where you want to use the engine for.

Every cam can be made to go through the emission tests. I got my 1330 with a aeg643 cam through the test without any problems. You'll only need to adjust the mixture/timing/ pull some tricks .

So you have to decide where you want to use the engine, then decide the cam. And please, be honest. There are enough people running a 310 sp cam on the road who never get the maximum out of it..

Sc are correct, more importantly a cam and rocker combination with less than 0.050 of overlap lift at the valves. You will need a catalytic converter And power would be around the 100hp mark. Overlap is what generates bhp. Overlap also ruins emmisions. You have a big compromise to weigh up. Cams in this area would be the sw5 -07 with 1.5 rockers. Another option would be a custom grind with 270 duration at 0.016" checking height (@ lobe) with an lsa of around 112 degrees and an overlap lift of 0.045", and a lobe lift if around 0.310". That should run rather well if it will fit on a lobe.
I have not tried this, just thinking around a starting point.

And I would be not happy with 100 horses out of a 1380 for that money.

Edit. Unless there was bags of torque.

There would be bags of it as long as the port runners are optimised for lower rpm operation.

to be honest, I thionk your best bet would be to stump up the extra cash and go for a 16 valve, it will be much better emmisions wise of you get the usual K1100 head with the 256 degree cams (not the K1200RS)

your then looking at 130hp and good emisions,

other than that, the SW5 in the 7 port would be good, also I thik the 274i would be a good choice as ita on a wide lobe centreline (112 degrees), also worth a look would be the RE13T (which is intended for turbo use) ground on a 112 LCA, see what the overlap lift is on that.

This is trickier than I thought!

Thanks for all the replies so far, I am always amazed at the wealth of knowledge here.

Since the engine build is going to cost around 5 grand, I am not sure I want to compromise with a tamer cam. I want to get as much out of the engine as I can.

Also I should have mentioned that it is just a road car.

What is the overlap lift on the following cam (if it can be worked out)

SEAT DURATION ON INLET 264 AND EX 268

CAM LIFT IN 264 EX 289

VALVE LIFT IN 327 EX 358 STD

VALVE LIFT IN 393 EX 430 1.5 LIFT

The overlap lift cannot be derived from those figures. You need to talk to the vendor. Or measure it.
